Joint-Stock Company "Kyiv machinetool building concern " (JSC "VERCON", the old name is Kiev Automatic Machinetools Plant named after M.Gorkiy, Kiev Machinetool Manufacturing Association)

A decision on building in Kyiv a machinetools manufacturing factory was approved on September 3rd, 1933. The planned capacity of the plant under construction comprised 2015 machinetools per year, and total cost of the construction was calculated at 97,5 million roubles. The engineering works was started on October 10th, 1934.

February 22nd, 1937 the plant passed state registration and since then was called "M.Gorkiy Kyiv Automatic Machinetools Plant". It became the first-rate manufacturer and exporter of high-performance machinery for metal processing in the ex-USSR.

Operation of the plant was broken with the beginning of the Second World War. Many workers went to the battle-front, but the plant kept working under evacuation and in 1943 it was conferred with an award of a Labor Red Banner. December 1944 plant has produced the first batch of machinetools after returning from evacuation.

In July, 1976 on the basis of factory the Kyiv Machinetool Building Association was created, and in December, 1984 the plant was conferred with Lenin award.

With taking the Ukraine's independent status the staff of enterprise has managed to overcome on his own the economic crisis which had just started. In the shortest possible time lathes of different modifications were designed and put into production.

In September 1992 it was reorganised into the "Kyiv state automatic machine tools plant".

State registration of the Joint-Stock Company "Kyiv machinetool building concern" JSC "Vercon" has taken place on February 9, 1994. In the year 1995 there was accepted the solution to create a series of joint-stock companies on the basis of JSC "Vercon".

In 1999 the economical situation began to improve. There was held the reconstruction of the plant and production facilities was given effect to international standards. On the basis of workshops with closed production cycle branches were created in order to successfully operate under free market conditions. Presently JSC "Vercon" includes about 30 branches. At the expense of the economical growth it was possible to increase an outturn on 77,2 % in 1999 in comparison with 1998, sales grew on 62,9 %, production volume - on 25,5 %. Export augmented due to deliveries of machinetools to Korea, Vietnam, Algeria and other countries.

New models and dimension-types of machinetools were put into series, for example, model ÊÀ-280 with distance between centers up to 2000 mms and swing up to 500 mm, grinding machines SÒ-300, polishing machines ÊÀ-621, ÊÀ-622.

In the year 2000 there were 210 machinetools produced instead of scheduled 128, it exceeded the plan on 64 %. Production output grew on 69,3 %, sales - on 72,9 %.

Special attention was drawn to the design development and, taking into account the customers' requests, enhancement of the lathes ÊÀ-280 capabilities. At present time nearly 50 versions are being produced.

In the year 2002 the production line was expanded with the twin-spindle CNC lathes PAB-130, PAB-160.

Manufactured experimental samples of vertical drilling machine KA-232 and modern universal screw-cutting lathe KA-150 intended to raise concern export competitive ability and the universal lathes ÊÀ-280F was manufactured, as well.

Produced first vertical double-spindle CNC lathe PAB-350 for processing of workpieces of big diameters (over 350 mm).

In period of years 2000-2003 profit obtained is spent on reconstruction of foundry plant; replacement of the physically worn-out machinery, its modernization and recondition; advancing of manufacturing processes and improvement of the production quality.
